May 9 2011 – The T-Shirt pretty much said it all, “Frag Thy Neighbor!” In a time where people are finding more and more excuses to take God out of their daily routine and gaming is used as an escape form the daily grind, the guys at 3DR have transformed that medium into a tool to bring Christians together and share the gospel. The team of Eric Hammond (HammDogg), Shaun Reinsel (HydroWarDaddy) and Andrew Slaugenhaupt (aka New Creation) engages the gaming community though its popular podcast as well as through events and competitions.
3DR proves that no matter what you’re into there is a way God can use it to advance the Kingdom and will bless you for having the faith to do so. They’ve taken online gaming, something infamous for its chat room language and competitive nature and turned it into a place for Christians to link up, share the word and of course put each other in the cross-hairs of a shotgun or two. Some may be shocked though to find that on the site they discuss a gamut of games, consoles and genres. The staff claim no particular affiliation or preference to a single console or system. This week’s podcast revolved around the PSN outage and zombies. Yes that’s right zombies! Another surprise visitors may find is that the site maintains a focus on fellowship over competition. While it offers plenty of opportunities for the latter, when it comes to its discussion boards, it has strict rules concerning voicing disagreement:
Because of the tendency for Christians to become entangled in arguments and disagreements among each other, we have a strict rule about public debate on our website. 1 Corinthians 1:10 says “I appeal to you, brothers, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that all of you agree with one another so that there may be no divisions among you and that you may be perfectly united in mind and thought.” We are to be united in what we have in common, that we are saved by the grace of God and none are worthy of His favor. Debates about doctrinal beliefs are not allowed and will be removed from the site. Discussions regarding devotions found on the site may be posted but any disputes must be directed to the site admin and not posted publicly.
3 Day Respawn (http://www.3dayrespawn.com) is a ministry which aims to provide Godly fellowship, companionship, and Biblical direction by offering a method of connecting with others through the video games based website, community events, and resources for anyone who plays games or knows someone who does. The ministry is based on a social media (Facebook) style community website which helps christian video game players connect with one another. The result is an experience of fellowship and mutual christian edification which is in stark contrast to the average video game playing experience. Our goal is to make disciples of all nations.
